Structural bodywork is the specific treatment of soft tissue due to injury, malalignment and postural deviations. Structural bodywork is not really a massage, though it operates under a massage license most of the time. Ida Rolf created a manual therapy system now called “Rolfing” but is the originator of modern structural integration. I believe the roots of structural bodywork stem from very ancient forms of natural medicine practiced by and on people who depended on their bodies for everyday survival. Structural bodywork provides structural realignment and integration through the release of the connective tissue in all its forms and levels.
Most structural bodywork session use a combination of MFR, NPR, trigger point and somatic therapies along with postural assessment and alignment goals.
